The winner of the award will be given a $2 500 USD cash prize, an all-expenses-paid trip to an International Women's Forum and online courses from one of the most respected international universities.

The award aims to recognise, celebrate and empower African women journalists who support female entrepreneurship in Africa. The award was open to African women journalists whose stories were broadcast or published between Tuesday, 1 January and Sunday, 15 September. The stories were judged on content, writing, analysis, creativity, human interest and community impact.

The 2019 APO Group African Women in Media Award finalists include:
  • Mrs Aneta Felix (@AnetaFelix) — Nigeria: 'Female Entrepreneurs lead Beverage'
  • Mrs Nila Yasmin (@nila_yasz) — Uganda: 'Aweko Faith Is Turning Uganda's Waste Into Wealth'
  • Mrs Lilian Museka (@museka123) — Kenya: 'Women's dignity restored through sanitary towel dispensers' 
The winner will be announced at the fifth annual Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF), which will be hosted at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Tuesday, 29 October to Wednesday, 30 October.

AWIEF is an annual event is a platform that ais to see global thought leaders, industry experts, policymakers, academics, development organisations and investors meet. The gathering intends to encourage members to talk, connect, network, share, collaborate and transact in a combined effort to boost Africa's entrepreneurship ecosystem for women.
