The Fix Scholarship aims to help women realise their full potential. The purpose is to fund the education of women that want to make social and economic change within their communities.

The funds raised through the event will be used towards the bursary to fund the next generation of female entrepreneurs.

"I funded the Fix Scholarship out of pocket for the first four years, but [I] knew I needed a sustainable model to continue seeing our Fix Scholar graduate every year," says Fix. "Our annual fundraiser has kept the social enterprise going for seven years. I'm passionate about women on the continent doing incredible things and supporting one another."

Through the initiative's funding, the scholarship is given out to an aspiring female entrepreneur solving a problem within their community — landing them a social entrepreneurship at the Gordon Institute of Business Science.

The course also affords the scholar an opportunity to network with investors and influential thought leaders that can guide them along their career paths. "5FM is proud to partner on this great initiative driven by one of our own on-air talents," says 5FM acting station manager Liesl Hefkie.

"The station, which is synonymous with being an entertainment powerhouse, is also invested in enriching the lives of our listeners — focusing on young, ambitious South Africans," adds Hefkie.

The 'What Women Want Convention' is a day dedicated to the upliftment of women in the form of a conference, with speakers including:

  • Shukri Toefy — entrepreneur and film producer
  • Letshego Zulu — motivational speaker and author
  • Zoya Mabuto — public speaker and coach
  • Nina Hastie — comedian and host
The conference will be followed by a cocktail party where entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, thought leaders and inspired beginners can engage. The evening will round off with an after-party with 5FM DJs Fix, Rob Forbes, Ryan the DJ, Kyle Cassim, Kid Fonque on the decks alongside Rubber Duc.

Tickets can be bought directly from the website or Facebook page. Attendees can either purchase the full package — which includes tickets for both events (the conference and cocktail evening) for R550 — or tickets to the Forbes & Fix after-party that is partnered with 5FM for R200. All profits of the event will go towards the Fix Scholarship.
