Operating out of Johannesburg, South Africa, the travel-focused station celebrated a huge success during its beta test from September to November 2019. The station has reached over 90 000 listeners a month from around the world.

The station will relaunch and officially begin live-streaming from Monday, 3 February. It will share numerous hours of original programming covering all things travel in Africa.

The weekly schedule includes shows about:
  • hospitality,
  • destinations,
  • transport (aviation, cruises and rail),
  • African culture,
  • trade events, and
  • exclusive interviews
"Founded on the concept 'Ideas That Matter', Gallivant Radio aims to lead the pursuit of progress in Africa's travel industry," says Miriro Matema, writer at Gallivant Africa. "From actionable insights to hilarious interviews, Gallivant Radio is a candid way to connect the world to Africa."

"Africa has largely been misrepresented. The most recent incident was the idea that the Wonder of the World, Victoria Falls, would go dry — thus sparking the hashtag #VictoriaFallsIsNotDry," adds Matema. "Gallivant Radio aims to share an accurate narrative of the continent from the voices of the people who live there."

"Travel is undoubtedly the world's largest industry," says Gallivant Africa publisher Ashton Sobhuza. "67 million tourists visited Africa in 2018, which is far less than those who visited places like Europe in the same period (710 million). With so much to offer, only three African countries made it into Euromonitor's 2019 Top 100 Destination City report."

"Our goal is to help the entrepreneurs and SMEs in the travel industry to affordably get more international exposure. As a niche radio station focused on Africa's travel industry, we believe we're in a better position to support the industry," adds Sobhuza.

Over half of the shows are hosted by African women, while 80% of the hosts have had no previous experience working in radio. The station also aims to serve as an on-ramp to jobs in the media industry by offering free training opportunities and access to professional-grade equipment and software.

Gallivant Radio will be broadcasting live at the world's largest travel trade conferences from Monday, 3 February. The schedule includes:
  • ITB Berlin: Wednesday, 4 March to Sunday, 8 March
  • World Travel Market Africa: Monday, 6 April to Wednesday, 8 April
  • Arabian Travel Market: Sunday, 19 April to Wednesday, 22 April
  • World Travel Market London: Monday, 2 November to Wednesday, 4 November
