CLiP, which is led by the United Kingdom government's centre for Environment Fisheries and Aquaculture Science, will support the Changing Oceans Filmmakers' masterclass presented by Wesgro. The masterclass aims to show how to make impactful conservation documentaries and will collaborate on various Wavescape events and activities in Cape Town.

The masterclass sees some of South Africa's top ocean conservation experts and environmental filmmakers come together to discuss the challenges they face when they tell stories in an atmosphere of denialism and increasing censure.

The masterclass will take place on the first evening of the two-day CLiP Innovation Conference: STEM the tide of plastic waste in Africa in Cape Town on Wednesday, 4 December.

The conference will announce the winners of the inaugural STOMP Awards, which was initiated to discover and encourage innovations that reduce and eliminate marine plastic pollution. The finalists will be hosted by CLiP and their innovations will be showcased at the conference, which is co-hosted by the Sustainable Seas Trust.

CLiP country lead Fiona Preston-Whyte says that CLiP was excited to partner with Wavescape "towards [CLiP's] common aim of reducing the amount of plastics in the marine environment".

Duncan Pritchard, project manager of Green Corridors — a Durban non-profit organisation that manages the STOMP Awards — says that over 60 submissions were received.

Entries were made in the following categories:
  • technology or technical design
  • consumer products
  • youth and adult inspire through creativity and action
  • special recognition category for organisations and individuals doing significant things to find solutions
The filmmaker's masterclass will take place on Wednesday, 4 December. The event will be from 18:00 for 18:30, at Invest South Africa One Stop Shop, Cape Sun Corner, 46 St. George's Mall, Cape Town.
