Checkers has surprised 80 children from the Lim'uphile Agricultural Organisation at Sakhasonke Village in Walmer, Port Elizabeth with hot dogs, cupcakes and goodie bags containing biscuits, party packs and school stationery.

"We would like to thank Shoprite and Checkers for their continued support. Our children come from poor families who cannot afford to buy Christmas presents, so this came at just the right time," says Xolani Siwa, project leader of the Lim'uphile Agricultural Organisation, which is one of the country's community food gardens supported by Shoprite.

Siwa started the organisation by transforming a former illegal dumping site into an organic food garden.

Shoprite and Checkers aim to continue delivering food hampers, gifts and festive treats to vulnerable communities across South Africa.
