The position has resulted from a consolidation of the marketing and sales (Cinemark) divisions into a single business unit, which is responsible for marketing the Ster-Kinekor brand to increase attendances, and growing its in-cinema sales and advertising offering.
Matsau joins the country’s leading cinema exhibitor following a career at MultiChoice and DStv where, for more than six years, he held various roles, the most recent being head of marketing for SuperSport for South Africa and the rest of Africa. Prior to that, he held various marketing positions at PPC and Unilever.
Matsau is excited about his career move from the small screen of DStv to one focused on the big cinema screen. “There are both challenges and opportunities facing Ster-Kinekor in the current competitor landscape and economic environment. With a strong focus on the entertainment value of the cinema offering and its unique selling points, I do believe we have a great role to play in enticing new audiences to experience ‘great moments at their greatest’ on the big screen.”
Wearing his sales hat, Matsau and the sales team’s focus is to demonstrate to current and potential clients and advertisers the benefits of cinema advertising. He believes that cinema advertising is impactful. It is also affordable as adverts can be targeted to a specific cinema site or region, and they play out to a captive audience.
“I see the Ster-Kinekor job as a great opportunity to advance my career. I am also looking forward to making a meaningful impact in both the marketing and sales areas of the business, together with the respective teams. But, more importantly, I want to do this while growing and adding value to the communities in which Ster-Kinekor operates, and society in general,” concludes Matsau.
