“We have not reached the full end of our strategy life, the results have been very impressive and management felt that we should not fix what is not broken, minor cosmetic changes will be made to beef up the On Air team, two female presenters will be introduced for early morning weekend shows and one will co-host a prime time drive starting on the 5th of May,” said Ligwalagwala FM station manager, Rio Mabunda.

Joining the station is former SABC1 Ses’khona presenter Mpumi Mbethe. The ambitious go-getter will become a popular voice on weekdays from 15:00 to 18:00 as she joins Shabbisto on Asambe Drive Show as co-host. The other addition is that of Simphiwe Hlabangane who used to be featured on Lungile Mhango’s Show as a beauty therapist. She has earned herself a spot in the station’s line up. Her voice will be heard at the break of dawn every Sunday from 03:00 to 06:00. “I fell in love with radio in my high school days in the early nineties and I never thought I would see myself behind the microphone as a radio presenter because I pursued a career in wellness. Now I am on radio and I’m thrilled,” says Hlabangane.

Charmaine Banda is the other new recruit and she is completely new to radio. Her vast knowledge in international relations and political studies strategically position her for greater things. Asked what listeners can expect from her she said, “I promise the listeners loads of knowledge and informative sessions which should lead to greater development to our country and the individual listener.”

Those are the one-air additions that the listeners can expect. However, there are more additions. Mfundo Ntsibande makes his return as Ligwalagwala FM’s marketing manager. He is known for leading the station’s re-branding campaign in 2008. In his tenure as the marketing manager, the station broke into the country’s top 10 favourite radio stations for the first time. The station’s birthday celebration of 2008, which he headed was voted the country’s biggest one day event of that year.

In 2014, the station celebrates 32 years of broadcasting. A big birthday celebration is on the cards and will be announced on air. More details will be announced in due course.
