As the competition begun, schools from Gauteng, The Western Cape Peninsula, Eastern Cape and the Durban and Pietermaritzburg regions eagerly embarked on a journey of glass recycling, says the company.

Commencing in February 2023, participating schools have been weaving recycling spells, competing not only to combat litter but also to secure their share of over R 510 000. Participating schools transformed into recycling wizards, ready to transform glass bottles and jars through recycling magic, with the aim of outshining their peers in the province, the company adds.

According to TGRC, monthly and annual cash prizes awaited the schools that displayed their recycling magic most effectively. Nationally, the weight of the glass collected throughout the competition was equivalent to nearly 300 cars! The top Gauteng schools sadly collected the lowest volume of glass, with Eastern Cape shining with two schools in the national top four.

In addition to congratulating all participating schools, TGRC has recognised the top four national winners:

  1. Isnembe Secondary School in KwaZulu-Natal collected 45,592 kilograms of glass, claiming the top spot nationwide and earning a prize of R30 000, along with an additional R 20 000 as the national overall winner.
  2. Kenridge Primary School in the Western Cape collected 39 952 kilograms of glass, securing the second position nationwide and winning a prize of R30 000.
  3. Little Eagles Play & Pre School in the Eastern Cape collected 33 674 kilograms of glass, securing the third position nationwide and winning a prize of R30 000.
  4. Morewag Primary School, also in the Eastern Cape, collected 30 054 kilograms of glass, securing the fourth position nationwide and winning a prize of R20 000.

TGRC concludes by extending its heartfelt congratulations to all participating schools and winners for their magical contributions to glass recycling efforts.
