Marketers, let's become attention seekers:

The term 'attention marketing' was coined by the famous entrepreneur Steve Jelley.

This term generally refers to businesses grabbing the attention of users to convey marketing messages online without using the conventional (and often annoying) in-your-face advertising that consumers have grown accustomed to on these platforms.

But how can brands attract attention without using the old audacious and invasive methods?

Well, in essence, these businesses should create marketing messages that are compelling and interesting enough to draw attention but still simple enough to maintain this attention.

Now, this might sound contradictory, but it's actually quite simple.

Examples of how marketers can take part in attention marketing is by:
  • creating bite-sized content
  • using eye-catching graphics like GIFs, memes, infographics and photos
  • setting up interactive content like polls and quizzes
  • employing emotive messaging that is relevant to the personal experiences of consumers
  • writing intriguing and captivating copy, and
  • sharing relevant and topical content.
