It is with great sadness that the Advertising Benevolent Fund (ABF) says goodbye to André Cronjé, a former General Manager and one of the Fund’s first employees, who passed away from lung cancer on 3 September 2009.

André’s presence was always felt, not only because of the gentle giant’s stature, but because of his commitment to the advertising industry for over 40 years. Although trained as a company secretary, André made his mark in advertising when he first handled the Lexington account, a brand he managed for a considerable period. He was also a member of the Newspaper Press Union (NPU) for many years and was very much the face of the ABF for the 12 years he was with the Fund.

André’s funeral was held at the Fontainebleu Community Church in Randburg, attended by several members of the advertising community. He leaves behind his wife, Flo, who contributed to the ABF’s smooth running, as well as several children and grandchildren. André and Flo were both made honorary members of the ABF.
