The idea behind the new offer is that one Wednesday a month, during selected months, Steers will make a special offer available to customers. No one will know exactly what the deal is before that Wednesday, except that it’ll include a famous Steers menu item at an unbelievable price, offering unbeatable value.

The only clue as to what the offer may be will be found on Steers’ Facebook page, where – in between each offer – fans can vote for their favourite deal out of a choice of three potential Wacky deals. The deal with the most votes will be selected as the next Once-Off Wacky, but only revealed as such the day before the offer is made available in-store, maintaining the surprise element.

“This means our customers are actually determining the deals, not us. They have an opportunity to get involved and have their voices heard; it’s real customer engagement!” explains Steers’ senior brand manager, Lee-Ann Skinner. “This is the first time we’re using Facebook in this way, and we’re really excited to involve our customers at this level.”

The first Once-Off Wacky deal will be available in store on 16 May and will offer a Steers Chicken Burger for just R15.90 (normally R25.90). Following this, the Once-Off Wacky offers will be revealed on secret Wednesdays throughout the year.

“Steers is renowned for offering great value – it’s one of our core brand values. We wanted to increase that perception among consumers even further, and offer something a little different, an unexpected surprise, that pushes the ‘value’ boundary even more. Once-Off Wacky is undoubtedly the biggest value drive we’ve ever embarked on,” adds marketing executive, Nána Lloyd.

Aside from social media, the deals will be supported through TV ads on the Tuesday before the deal ‘reveal’, radio ads and generic POS materials at tills in stores on the day that the offer is available.

Steers’ regular Wacky Wednesday special will still be available every Wednesday, of every month.
