At what point did you realise that you might be funny enough to make a living from making people laugh? Was it a gradual thing, or was there a moment?
It was a gradual thing. I was working as a call centre agent and doing club gigs in the evening and it got to a point where I was making my salary from club gigs and it was at that moment that I realised that I can make a living from making people laugh.
In a country like ours, with not everyone possessing a sense of humour, just how difficult is it to know where the line is? Have you ever overstepped it?
What line? I am a comedian and sometimes that means stepping on, or overstepping “the line”.
If you could deliver a message to your younger self, what would it be?
Wear a condom and never take it off.
Do you ever have to deal with hecklers?
It happens all the time. As a performer, you just have to get the rest of the audience on your side and deal with whoever is being rowdy.
In addition to being a comedian, you’re also a filmmaker – can you tell us a bit more about that side of your career?
I like to think of myself as an all-round entertainer. Most kids knew what they wanted to be when they were young, I wanted to be 12 things at the same time. Film is a world that allows me to explore different avenues from acting, to doing the technical and business side.
What’s next on the horizon for you – any exciting projects you’re allowed to talk about, or just general stuff?
I have a season 2 of a television series coming up, but I can’t talk about it. I have two movies coming up, one I’ll be starring in and one I’ll be producing. I also have a lot of comedy performances in and around the country for the rest of the year.
