With so much of the world being online, many new opportunities have surfaced. One of which is blogging. If you are starting a blog as your main source of income — or even as an additional one — there are certain ways to ensure that it will be a success.
Knowing what content your audience is looking for is one way to ensure a loyal following online, but there are a few other ways to make sure that you will be the best in the business.
Want to learn more? Let’s do it:
1. Be consistent
As a blogger, consistency is key! When you start building up your audience, they are going to be expecting content from you on a regular basis. If you post five blogs in one day and then no blogs for a month, you aren’t going to be able to keep that audience you have worked so hard to initially gain.
Therefore, if you want to nail the blogger game, be sure to publish content consistently on specific days of the week. This will allow your audience to know when they can expect some amazing new content from you. So, be sure to work out a content calendar and stick to that schedule to keep the content consistent and flowing.
2. Use creativity
Regardless of the topic, ensure to add your own creative flair to your content. This allows for
personality and
originality to shine through. Being creative will also allow your content to stand out in a sea of online noise.
Blogging should also be more than just stating facts or sourcing other people. Ensure that you are working towards being a thought leader and that you are bringing your own quirks to the content that you are creating.
Creativity is also unique to an individual — meaning that, as a blogger or writer, you must ensure that your work is recognisable for your creativity. So, don’t be scared to be a little quirky here and there.
3. Write the way you talk
Using big words and long descriptive sentences may
seem fancy, but if it is hard to read and even harder to understand, it won’t do your content any good. People enjoy conversational content that is easy to follow and gets to the point.
This is why
writing the way you talk is a great way to ensure you create content that everyone will understand and enjoy.
Readers do not read content for fancy talk but for easy understanding, effective learning and the entertainment that humour and personality brings. So, if we are being honest here, drop the Queen's English and talk the talk of the common folk! Simplicity is appreciated and enjoyed by all!
4. Write for yourself
This might seem like a strange concept because we automatically write for others, but
writing for yourself first can prove to be beneficial in the long run.
Why is this, you ask? Well, the moment you shut out the noise from the world and focus on the content that
you want to write, your passion for that topic will be evident. Writing for yourself first will allow you to put more effort, love and time into that piece. And yes — your reader will see this love reflected in later pieces!
Writing for yourself
first will also ensure that your content is more authentic and this is something that the right people will
love. You will also build up a loyal online following when you are creating genuine and authentic content.
5. Give your readers tips and tricks
Creativity, quirkiness and humour are
great ways to catch and maintain your readers' attention, but it is vital that your content provides insightful tips for them too.
So, when you are blogging about a certain topic, be sure to provide fun facts, tips, tricks, knowledge and guidance to your reader. Some ways that you can provide tips and tricks is in 'how to' blogs and listicles.
By providing useful and insightful knowledge, you can rest assured that your audience will always be coming back for more as it benefits them … because who
hasn’t tried a useful hack that they found online?
