DStv has announced the launch of BBC UKTV (DStv channel 134) on DStv Family, DStv Access and DStv Easy View, which will air from Thursday, 15 December. According to the brand, this will offer more DStv viewers access to various entertainment, natural history series, soaps and children's shows from BBC Studios' award-winning catalogue.
"We have strengthened our partnerships, which has, in turn, strengthened our content offering. Therefore, we are extremely excited to introduce BBC UKTV to our viewers," says Georginah Machiridza, executive head of general entertainment channels at MultiChoice Group.
According to the brand, BBC Studios' sixth channel on DStv will be scheduled to match the viewing habits of families in South Africa with a range of genres for all ages to enjoy.
These will include programmes and shows as the following:
- The long-running sitcom My Family (Season 1) will be aired on weekdays at 06:00 and 19:30.
- A collection of the BBC's natural history shows will be available every day at 09:00 and on weekdays from 15:00. Including Wild Africa and Africa with Ade Adepitan.
- The British hospital-based soap Doctors returns to DStv audiences with Season 22 weekdays at 19:00.
- Factual entertainment such as Top Gear (Season 19) will air on BBC UKTV on weekdays at 20:00 and Sundays from 18:30.
- Entertainment for children up to the age of 12 will be available to watch between 06:30 and 09:00 every morning.
The launch of BBC UKTV joins BBC Studios' existing channel offering on DStv, which includes:
- BBC Earth
- BBC Brit
- BBC Lifestyle
- CBeebies, and
- BBC World News.
BBC Studios' existing suite of channels will continue to offer first-run of brand-new premium programmes and local shows, according to the brand.
