To be a journalist in this current climate, aspiring professionals must know how to convey information on multiple platforms in print, broadcast, online, video, and social media. They then can become fully-fledged multimedia journalists.

Read on as media update's Saads Abrahams touches on the future of journalism.

In our current world, news and information have made the jump from paper to digital screens, which we can access 24 / 7. This has caused news outlets to rely on our short attention spans and need for instantaneous updates.

Previously, when something significant happened, people would find out the next day in the newspaper or during a scheduled newscast. Now, it is all over social media within moments. So how does this influence a journalist's future?

For a journalist to survive in this industry going forward, they must:
  • know each social media platform and how to use it
  • work with AI tools instead of against it
  • write pieces that will intrigue audiences, and
  • figure out the most effective way to spread it quickly before the public moves onto another topic.

Despite the changes in technology, journalism's essentials stay the same:
  • Get the facts.
  • Form accurate articles around them.
  • Breathe life into it.
