Okay, so we have all been there!

We have all found ourselves dumbfounded by the simplest of words, unable to move on or write anything else. We write for a living, so how is it even possible?

We call this occurrence wordnesia — and it is no joke!

Alrika Möller from media update unravels the struggles of wordnesia here:

What is it exactly?

Wordnesia is when you have no idea how to spell a word that you have read and written a million times. It completely stumps you!

It can also be when you are looking at a specific word and your brain decides it looks wrong. So rude!

What causes this affliction?

Neuroscientists have been wondering about this for ages.

The most common theory is that your brain gets hyper-fixated on the word due to subconscious distractions or fatigue and your brain goes into overdrive to analyse it.

Another popular theory is that we go into a form of autopilot when we write or read if we do it often, causing our brains to start doing certain things automatically. The automatic brain train hits a speed bump and your brain gets confused —  which is also known as a brain glitch.
