HOT 102.7FM says that Head of News Tara Penny, HOT 1027 Breakfast news anchor and team member Bunny Majaja, new readers Natasha Thorp and Mathapelo Moloi and Head of Digital Christa Eybers have been nominated in the Women in Media and Journalism category for the annual awards, which recognises excellence in professional fields in South Africa.
"We're incredibly proud of our News and Digital teams and their approach to telling great stories that resonate with our audience, both on-air and online," says Lloyd Madurai, Managing Director of HOT 102.7FM. "So, whilst I'm not surprised to see these valuable team members recognised for the great work they do, it's encouraging that their efforts have made such an impact on a broader scale. So, a huge well done to all five and here's holding thumbs for a win in this category."
The Woman of Stature Awards celebrate the empowerment and remarkable achievements of women across various industries in South Africa. It serves as a platform to honour the collective excellence of women who are making a significant impact in their respective fields, the station adds.
The station says that this year sees 14 categories awarded:
- CEO of the Year
- Entrepreneur of the Year
- Woman in Arts and Culture
- Woman in Beauty and Fashion
- Woman in Coaching and Mentoring
- Woman in Community
- Woman in Education and Training
- Woman in Engineering and Mining
- Woman in Financial Services
- Woman in Health and Wellness
- Woman in Media and Journalism
- Woman in Sport
- Woman in Technology, and
- Woman in MICE, Tourism and Hospitality.
According to the organisers, they invite nominations in the various categories and once submissions have closed, "there is a thorough administration process of screening the nominee, conducting due diligence, approving the nomination, adjudication and auditing the results. The adjudication panel is independent of the awards and is made up of industry leaders, past winners, and finalists."
Woman of Stature Awards Founder and CEO, Charlotte du Plessis says it's unusual to see five nominations for a single news team, but that it speaks to what this small department has achieved in a short space of time.
"This is testament to the incredible work produced on a daily basis by the HOT 102.7FM News team and it's even more amazing when you consider that the station is only three years old," Du Plessis says. "Each year these awards shine a spotlight on remarkable women who have triumphed within their respective industries. The premise is simple, yet profound — to celebrate excellence and inspire others by showcasing tangible examples of success."
The winners will be announced at the 10th staging of the Woman of Stature Awards at an event in April next year.
