Station Manager Vasili Vass says the update reflects refinement rather than reinvention. "Our purpose is clear: to champion jazz and classical music in a way that is relevant and sustainable. This line-up allows us to focus our resources, strengthen consistency on-air and create space for future growth, while remaining true to FMR's identity."

The core of FMR's weekday line-up remains unchanged, with Mike Mills' Classic Breakfast (06:00 to 09:00), Rodney Trudgeon's Classic Morning (09:00 to 12:00), and Nic's Classic Drive (16:00 to 18:00), says the station.

According to the station, key changes include:

  • Mike Mills will also present Cape Diary (Tuesdays and Fridays, from 12:00 to 13:00) and Fine Movie Classics (Wednesdays, from 12 to 13:00).
  • Matinee extends to a three-hour programme (from 13:00 to 16:00 on weekdays) with Louise Howlett, Paul Wise, Graham McCulloch, Otto van der Walt and Chantal Coetzee.
  • Classic Business with Michael Avery is now on every week day, Mondays to Fridays from 18:00 to 19:00.
  • In the Lounge moves to weekdays, from 19:00 to 23:00, showcasing jazz with Richard Green on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Andrew Williams, Wednesday through Friday.
  • Saturday Breakfast at 07:00 with Melissa Stephens is followed by a full day of jazz with Saan, Diane Jane, Anathi Godlo and Shireen Fisher.
  • Sunday Breakfast at 07:00 with Otto van der Walt is followed by jazz with Mzukisi Maketa and Shireen Fisher.

Vass acknowledged the contribution of volunteers affected by the changes.

"Fine Music Radio is built on the dedication of its presenters, volunteers, and listeners. As the station evolves, we say thank you to those who have handed over the microphone after years of exceptional service. Their contribution remains an integral part of FMR's story," adds Vass. The revised line-up ensures FMR remains focused on its mandate while preparing for the future.

"This is about safeguarding what makes FMR distinctive, while ensuring we continue to serve classical and jazz audiences with excellence, relevance, and stability," concludes Vass.
