FTH:K’s acclaimed latest production, QUACK! will be performed for three shows only at Out The Box Festival. The performances will take place at the Arena Theatre on Thursday, 25 March at 18:00; Friday, 26 March at 19:00; and Saturday, 27 March at 17:00.

“Following the incredible response we had to this production at the 2009 National Arts Festival and the run at the Intimate Theatre in November, we are delighted to be presenting it as part of Out the Box Festival of Puppetry and Visual Performance,” says Director, Rob Murray.

“It is once again an honour to be part of this Festival, performing alongside some of the leading local and international names in visual theatre.”

Devised by the cast under the direction of Rob Murray, QUACK! features masks by Unima SA’s CEO and 2010 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for theatre, Janni Younge, who has also been nominated for a Fleur du Cap Award for her masks in QUACK!. Sound design is by 2008 ABSA L'atelier winner, James Webb and Brydon Bolton; set design and props by Jesse Kramer; and costume design by Leila Anderson.

A man lies dying in hospital, lost in fever and beset with visions. In his delirium, he escapes into a parallel universe, refashioning himself as a powerful healer. Part quack doctor; part motivational speaker; part politician; and part alchemist, he travels the land aided by his long-suffering assistant, and the mysterious presence of a number of acolytes. With them, he harvests the hopes and dreams of his expectant audiences. But in an environment of secrets and false prophets, influence is bound to go astray and how long can people be deceived and strung along before they turn against the liar?

QUACK! is our very own Afro-Gothic thriller and our most visual and visceral production yet,” says Murray. “We’re asking the audience to experience theatre in a way they might not have before, and thus consider the whole transaction, and its creators, in a different light. “

The cast features: Liezl de Kock; Lysander Barends; Emilie Starke; Marlon Snyders; Jori Snell; Tomri Steyn; and Christopher Beukes.

FTH:K is a multi-award-winning theatre and education company that aims to revolutionise the South African Theatre industry through the development of deaf and hearing performer-creators.

QUACK! will be performed at the Arena Theatre on Thursday, 25 March at 18:00; Friday, 26 March at 19:00; and Saturday, 27 March at 17:00.

Tickets cost R50 and R40 for concessions (deaf; disabled; students; pensioners; and block bookings of ten or more). Bookings through Computicket.
