Silence of the Music was premiered in September 2010 at the Baxter Theatre where it received standing ovations and was critically acclaimed by mainstream media for the exceptionally high standard of its original music. “The music deserves five stars. The idea as well,” said Mariana Malan of
Die Burger on 26 September. “The music is the big draw card here. It is epic, diverse and impressive,” commented Zane Henry with his review in
The Argus on 28 September 2010.
This classical intercultural love story is set in the future and tells the tale of an elderly couple whose intercultural marriage was spurned in 2010 by their families, friends and broader community. The story of Maria, a Christian music composer, and Khalil, a Muslim Sufi cab driver, reflects on the multitude of challenges they’ve experienced in 2010 through their love for each other and their common love of music.
Silence of the Music will run from 13 April to 30 April with daily shows from Monday to Saturday at 20:00.
