The Joburg Promusica Theatre has announced the staging of My Naam/My Name Is Ellen Pakkies in the Main Theatre on 4 and 5 May. It tells the story of Ellen Pakkies, a seemingly ordinary woman living in a notoriously violent area named Lavender Hill, in the vicinity of Cape Town, who murdered her beloved son Adam, or 'Abie' as she called him, a crystal metaphetatimine (tik) addict.
The story created an international stir in 2007 and 2008; in fact, Ellen's story is still making headlines across the world - two international doctorates were written about her and recently a documentary about her won film-maker Michael Duffet a South African Journalism Award.
The bilingual play My Naam/My Name is Ellen Pakkies, written and directed by Lizz Meiring, is coming to the Joburg Promusica Main Theatre on Friday, 4 May and Saturday, 5 May at 20:00.
Award-winning actress Vinette Ebrahim, known for her role as the motherly Charmaine Meintjes in the soap 7de Laan, portrays Ellen in My Naam/My Name is Ellen Pakkies. Her son Abie is played by the award-winning Christo Davids, known as Errol Pieterse in 7de Laan.
Please note the age restriction of 16 (VL).
Tickets are R80 at Computicket – R60 for students and pensioners.
