LG Electronics recently launched the world’s first LG CURVED OLED (organic Light-Emitting Diode) TV in South Africa.

So the million dollar question is, why would one want a curved TV? For one, the curved screen looks wider and delivers a more realistic experience free of image distortion, regardless of where one looks, so there is an increased field of view, which means one can invite more friends for the Brazilian Grand Prix and still have everyone get a view of the action.

Representing a new era in television, what sets the LG Curved OLED television apart from its competitors is the ergonomically screen, which is optimised for human vision. This means the curvature of the IMAX-like screen fills the viewer’s vision more completely than any flat-screen television, with no visual distortion, making it the most immersive viewing experience to date.

To add to its appeal, the LG Curved OLED TV does not rely on backlight, shutter or other complex LCD structures, but employs LG’s proprietary WRGB technology to produce vivid, realistic images. The four-colour pixels (as opposed to the usual three-colour pixels in most televisions) light themselves, resulting in an exceptional viewing experience with natural colour, infinite contrast and absolute motion clarity.

The TV screen, which has been curved naturally to fit the viewer vision range, is only 4.3mm thin and weighs in at just 17kg. The modern design of the LG Curved OLED TV features a flowing, almost transparent Crystal Stand.

The 11mm (side) and 17mm (top and bottom) bezel or frame on the LG Curved OLED TV is thinner than any competitor’s product and is perceived to be less distracting to viewers, thus thereby enhancing their immersive viewing experience.

The forward-facing Clear Speakers are modestly incorporated into the Crystal Stand to deliver flawless audio with remarkable fidelity in the mid-to high-frequency range, which clinched it a Red Dot Design Award at the 2013 EISA Award.

General manager for Marketing at LG Electronics South Africa, Thomas van der Linde, says the LG Curved OLED TV is a technological achievement that LG can be truly proud of. “It presents an opportunity to lift us high above our competitors. Being the first to market with this product, LG Electronics has soundly demonstrated that it is a true technology leader in the Industry.”

The LG Curved OLED television will be available at selected premium retailers across the country.
