Vir Altyd is not a sequel to
Pad na jou Hart. However, the quality of its predecessor can clearly be seen in this new film. Danie Bester (co-producer), Jaco Smit (director) and Jacques Koudstaal (cinematographer) are part of the team again.
The film begins in one of South Africa’s most popular and beautiful towns, Paarl, which boasts Paarl Rock, preserved by the Drakenstein Municipality; Picardie Guest House, with its well-known dam and breathtaking views; the historic Toringkerk Dutch Reformed Church; the Rhebokskloof Wine Estate; the Afrikaans Language Monument; and also the Afrikaans Volksmond coffee shop.
The film transports audiences on a further adventure as an Air Mauritius plane touches down on the island of love. The team explored Mauritius for three weeks with our proud partner, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), during the filming of the movie. Viewers will discover destinations such as The 23-Coloured Earth, Ile aux Aigrettes, the ruins of Belle Mare, the market in Flacq and other stunning places on the island. The film is primarily located at World Leisure Holidays and Sun Resorts’ luxury five-star Long Beach Golf and Spa Resort in Mauritius.
Apart from the two main actors, Ivan (Hugo) and Donnalee (Nina), the cast also includes other top South African actors like Illse Roos (Marietjie Botha), Dirk Stoltz (Ben Botha), Elize Cawood (Aunt Betsie van Zyl), Wilson Dunster (Uncle Paul van Zyl), among others.
Francois Bloemhof adapted the script, written by Ivan Botha and Donnalee Roberts,
into a novel, which was released during October 2015 and is published by NB Publishers.
Award-winning songwriter and singer, Joshua na die Reën, wrote and performed the theme song, also titled
Vir Altyd – and this track will be released in November 2015. Listeners can look forward to the oice of newcomer Lizandra DesertRose Von Hagen with her endition of
Fluister. Actress Nicky de Kock, the 11-year-old who portrays the younger version of Nina, is an avid singer and her song In
Die Mik Van My Hart is also included on the album.
Vir Altyd was filmed during May and June 2015 in Paarl in the Western Cape and on the island of Mauritius.
The film will be released nationwide on Friday, 12 February 2016 by Ster-Kinekor, Nu Metro and independent theatres.
