SANParks is a regular participant in this annual event that supports the need to expose girls to the reality of the work environment. General manager: media, PR and stakeholder relations, Reynold Thakhuli says that SANParks is proud to be part of this important event aimed at providing these young girls with the necessary information aimed at empowering and equipping them to make better, informed choices about the decisions they make now for the future.

SANParks hosted 20 girls from Phateng Secondary School in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria. The girls spent the day with mentors whom they shadowed and learnt about the various career opportunities within SANParks such as Conservation, Tourism, Scientific Services, Finance and Human Resources.

Take a Girl Child to Work Day is an annual corporate social investment event organised by Cell C and endorsed by the Department of Education in South Africa. Companies involved organise for female learners (school pupils), usually from disadvantaged backgrounds, to spend the day at their place of work on the last Thursday of May. It is also aimed at exposing young girls to the "world of work". This initiative also helps to address the issues that concern the youth.

Thakhuli thanks Cell C’s corporate structure and corporate social investment initiatives; “Their belief that education is one of the most important means of empowering women with knowledge, skills, self-confidence and social and economic status are very important and plays a pivotal role in growing the young South Africans.”
