Afrika Tikkun supports over 12 000 individual beneficiaries in South Africa across their developmental cycle, from early childhood development through to job placement, in an aim to give them the best start in life and help them become productive citizens.

Onyi Nwaneri, director of partnerships of Afrika Tikkun, says, "From very small beginnings, we have grown exponentially based on the reputability and success of our model. Not only do we sponsor around 12 000 beneficiaries each year, we now employ over 500 locally trained employees in five different communities in South Africa's Gauteng and Western Cape provinces."

Nwaneri adds, "Our focus is the 360 development of young people across every stage of their development until they are able to access the economy in the form of employment or self-employment, and we’ve seen really great results over the years."

"We wanted to create a new narrative in a South African fundraising campaign that speaks to the fun-loving and adventurous among us. Adventure Fundraisers has been designed with convenience in mind, ensuring the act of giving online is seamless and enjoyable, bearing in mind the busy lifestyles of our campaigners," says Nwaneri. "This new digital campaign seeks to harness and support the fundraising efforts of active citizens and companies by putting the power in the hands of the campaigner."

Nwaneri adds, "The '#AdventureFundraisers' initiative was created to supplement our fundraising efforts so that we can do more good in the region and to give all South Africans the chance to do the same. With adventure fundraising in partnership with Afrika Tikkun, your very own personal or company adventure can change lives. Are you planning on climbing Kilimanjaro, running a marathon, cycling across the country, or losing 20kgs with boot camp? It is possible to make a difference in your community just by setting a goal and inviting your community to support your fundraising efforts."

How does it work?

  • Participants will first need to set a goal or decide on an adventure;
  • Then, they can register their campaign on the Afrika Tikkun website;
  • They can then share their news with friends and family with the www.backabuddy.co.za link;
  • They will then need to use the #MyAfrikaTikkun and #AdventureFundraisers hashtags when sharing their news on social media and to their network. Afrika Tikkun will support their cause by sharing it on its platforms; and
  • Participants can make use of fundraising resources on the Afrika Tikkun website.
