"The closure of preschools, although necessary, has left many principals and teachers without an income and are often unable to feed their own families, let alone many of their pupils who go to them for help," says Ewan Davenport, general manager, Pizza Hut Africa.

"In response to this crisis, over the next three months, we plan to serve 1 000 early childhood development practitioners and teachers with food parcels and Pizza Hut ‘Red Reading Box’ literacy kits to help contribute to the communities we serve," adds Davenport. "We’re grateful for our partners and, together, we honour all our teachers during this difficult time."

"As a longer commitment to these heroes amongst us, Pizza Hut will look to include these development practitioners and teachers as part of its literacy programme in the future. As a start, we have handed out 1 000 Red Reading Boxes with our food parcels distribution to several districts across the country. We are excited about how we can help these centres in the future," Davenport concludes.
