The project has seen Picup working collaboratively with Shop2Shop, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Mustadafin Foundation, Red Cross and Islamic Relief South Africa.

Shop2Shop supplied the food parcels and Picup ensured the last-mile delivery of these parcels across the Western Cape. Trucks were used to deliver to community centres in areas like Beauford West, Knysna and Mosselbay.

Picup CEO Antonio Bruni says that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation worked actively with Picup to put everything together. "They helped design the new process and solved some of the challenges like ensuring proof of delivery at the beneficiaries' doors," says Bruni.

"We are honoured to be able to assist with the supply and distribution of food parcels to people in need across South Africa during the national Lockdown. It forms part of the Picup COVID relief initiative," Bruni concludes.

According to Picup, its crowdsource driver network has extensive experience of delivering in these areas. This was a huge victory for its drivers as they had to overcome some security risks while delivering a scarce commodity in dire times.
