When it comes to public relations,
communication is key.
Whether you are launching a campaign or handling a crisis, there is
always some form of communication involved. This is why it is crucial to understand your audience. You can be the
best communicator in the world, but if you don't understand who you are talking to, it will be all for
naught.
media update's Alrika Möller reveals how PR professionals can understand their audience here:
Set clear goals
In order to understand your target audience, you first need to determine the
goal of the message. This will help
identify your target audience, as well as what aspects of this group you need to focus on, in order for the message to be successful.
Segment your audience
By
dividing your audience into
smaller groups, based on one or more shared traits, you can figure out who they
really are. From here, you can tailor your message accordingly.
Keep an eye on the media
The media is where people share views, whether that be on
social media pages,
blogs or podcasts. Watch this space to get a
clear view of who your audience is and what their
point of view looks like.
