Adopted at COP15, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework seeks to address the alarming loss of biodiversity worldwide.

The framework emphasises the interconnectedness of biodiversity with human well-being and sustainable development and the global collaboration required to safeguard the planet's rich and diverse ecosystems.

As economic activities, population growth and unsustainable resource consumption continue to bring about negative environmental consequences, both business and government need to manage the interplay between socio-economic development (people and prosperity) and the protection of our planet's biodiversity and climate.

Nature-based solutions receive scarce funding despite being among the top five effective strategies for the mitigation of carbon emissions and the protection of natural ecosystems.

The global forest and forest product sector understands the interdependencies of the:
  • people
  • planet, and
  • prosperity.

Representatives from South Africa, Brazil and New Zealand will also present case studies on the sustainable forest-based bioeconomy and how biodiversity, climate change and socio-economic development can be held in balance:

Jane Molony (Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa)

'Beyond the trees — how sustainable forestry and biodiversity stewardship can support South Africa's triple bottom line'

Ambassador Jose Carlos (Ibá, Brazil)

'Nature-based solutions — connections between biodiversity and climate in the forest-based sector'

Dr Elizabeth Heeg (Forest Owners Association, New Zealand)

'Nature-based solutions in New Zealand Forestry — the foundation of the bio-economy'

The session will be facilitated by Ross Hampton from the International Sustainable Forest Coalition.
