Located on the KZN Mid-South Coast, this multi-phased project — spearheaded by Crookes Brothers Limited — is fast becoming a catalyst for economic investment in the region, with Renishaw Hills, the first phase of this development, showing return on investment. But beyond the developments unfolding in this mixed-use precinct, Renishaw Coastal Precinct is aims to actively unlock the potential of this key coastal site, says the company.

"Far from being an emerging investment destination, Renishaw Coastal Precinct is fast becoming a prime location for quality developments on the KZN Mid-South Coast," says Barto van der Merwe, Managing Director of Renishaw Coastal Precinct. "The success of this can be attributed to our ethos of community inclusivity and conservation — we're creating a space that supports the natural beauty underscoring the region's appeal while ensuring everyone, from local businesses and non-profits to our local communities, all benefit from the precinct's development."

Eight Regional Benefits of Renishaw Coastal Precinct

As Renishaw Coastal Precinct progresses, the benefits aim to be felt across the region. These include:

  • Job Creation: From construction to tourism and conservation, Renishaw Coastal Precinct's development has created hundreds of direct and indirect job opportunities, with skills development and youth training playing a central role in long-term economic inclusion.
  • Property Values: The flagship Renishaw Hills development, a lifestyle estate in Scottburgh, has experienced a marked increase in property values since launching in 2018. Now in Phase 7 of its development, with expansive facilities and various home styles on offer, this development is positioning the KZN Mid-South Coast as an attractive investment destination.
  • Increased Footfall: With new residents drawn to Renishaw Coastal Precinct, surrounding businesses are benefiting from increased trade. This influx supports local restaurants, retailers, service providers and tourism operators, aiming to boost the regional economy while also attracting further investment.
  • Support for Local Initiatives: The precinct supports several local organisations whose work enhances quality of life, promotes environmental stewardship and fosters social cohesion. These include Keep Scottburgh Beautiful, Tidy Towns and Projects with a Purpose, among others. The precinct also sponsors local events which align with its vision of community and conservation.
  • Local Business Partnerships: Renishaw Coastal Precinct has prioritised collaboration with local businesses at all junctions, rather than creating unwanted competition. By enhancing the area's appeal through infrastructure and amenities, and working with business owners as the development expands, more opportunities are created for all.
  • Community Upliftment: Community upliftment is central to Renishaw Coastal Precinct. One of the most significant contributions to date has been the donation of 142-hectares of prime land near Amandawe to the KwaCele Tribal Council (KTC). This landmark gesture is designed to empower local communities through land ownership and sustainable enterprise development.
  • Supporting Infrastructure: Further demonstrating a commitment to long-term self-sufficiency, Renishaw Coastal Precinct is investing in its own services, including water, sanitation, refuse and electrical infrastructure as part of its land sales to ease pressure on municipal systems. This future-focused approach aims to ensure reliable service delivery for residents and businesses.
  • Attracting Investment: The investment impact of Renishaw Coastal Precinct has already been acknowledged on the national stage at the South African Investment Conference, where President Cyril Ramaphosa cited Renishaw Hills as a leading example of catalytic investment.

"Community, conservation and collaboration are at the heart of Renishaw Coastal Precinct, and this is already being felt across the region," says Van der Merwe. "There are lots of exciting new developments on the horizon, and we're looking forward to working with the local communities further in unlocking the economic potential of the KZN Mid-South Coast."

Plans for Renishaw Coastal Precinct

Zoned for multigenerational residential living, retail, commercial, educational and healthcare facilities, the precinct dedicates 80% of its land to conservation — a commitment to sustainable growth, says the company.

Two commercial developments are already confirmed. The first is an upmarket shopping centre by Cubisol Property Fund, which is already entrenched in the regional market, with Scottburgh Mall one of its assets, adds the company.

There's also a petrol filling station, a convenience store and a drive-through by local business owners, Hampsons. Plans are also underway for a private school, medical centre and recreational amenities, aiming to ensure holistic, long-term appeal, says the company.

Alongside Renishaw Hills, Renishaw Coastal Precinct is set to launch another new residential development that aims to afford investors a coastal farming lifestyle for all generations in a secure estate. Plans are also in place for the establishment of a private school, a medical centre and further recreational facilities, adds the company.

With natural attractions such as Blue Flag beaches, nature reserves and dive sites; property prices up to 30% lower than the KZN North Coast; and close proximity to major transport routes, Renishaw Coastal Precinct hopes to present a unique and affordable investment opportunity in a region fast becoming a benchmark for balanced development, concludes the company.
