For the past few years, community-driven organisations such as Keep Scottburgh Beautiful, Tidy Towns, the Green Team, as well as Pennington and Clansthal conservancies have supported the municipalities' efforts in maintaining public spaces and inspiring local pride. Renishaw Coastal Precinct, a 1 300-hectare mixed-use precinct, as well as its Phase One development, Renishaw Hills, are part of this ongoing drive to reinvigorate the KZN Mid-South Coast, says the team.

"It's truly inspiring to see the results of the work being done by our local environmental and community groups, and we're honoured to be a part of the positive change," says Barto van der Merwe, Managing Director of Renishaw Property Developments, a subsidiary of the JSE-listed Crookes Brothers Limited. "We will continue to work with local government, businesses and communities to ensure the KZN Mid-South Coast's investment potential is fully realised."

Ongoing Projects by Renishaw Coastal Precinct and Renishaw Hills

This joint initiative undertakes a massive Scottburgh clean-up, starting with the Main Road extending from the Dududu Off-Ramp to the Coconut Village turn-off. Six local workers have been hired for the initial clean-up, with Renishaw Coastal Precinct and Renishaw Hills committed to monthly litter collections and verge cuttings — with more planned for the summer months. According to the team, the initial clean-up includes:

  • Collecting more than 20 bags of litter on day one.
  • Cutting back and tidying roadside vegetation.
  • Grass cutting on verges.
  • Invasive alien plant removal.

The team says that it is providing weekly garden maintenance and watering at the Checkers Circle on Scott Street, as well as signage has been installed and the clock has been repainted.

"This is just the start of our ongoing efforts as we're committed to ensuring the entrance to Scottburgh is welcoming for visitors and residents," says Van der Merwe. "Checkers Circle is also a key visual landmark of Scott Street, which we feel needs to be prioritised."

One of the biggest attractions to the area is the many Blue Flag beaches, with Scottburgh Main Beach considered a key tourism destination and investor asset. To ensure this remains an attractive focal point, as well as to support the tireless efforts of the lifesavers on duty, Renishaw Coastal Precinct is donating a sun shelter, with plans in place to hire out Renishaw Hills-branded umbrellas at the beachfront for public hire. The proceeds of this will go towards the efforts of Keep Scottburgh Beautiful, says the team.

"The results of these efforts are already evident and we're looking forward to welcoming our summer visitors and potential investors to the KZN Mid-South Coast," concludes Van der Merwe. "This is truly an extraordinary part of the world and we're excited to see its vision being realised over the next few years."
