Over 400 guests were treated to a jam-packed programme which included talks on HIV awareness and prevention, a performance from local Kwaito group Big Nuz, an industrial theatre performance, free HIV testing, refreshments and give-aways.

Assmang Manganese senior general manager, Clive Padayachee said: “HIV/AIDS does not only affect local families, but the entire global economy and as such we encourage our future leaders to be tested and to know their status. As an organization we are committed to help the fight against this global crisis, and are proud to be part of the ‘Getting to Zero’ campaign.”

Musa Mkhize (Ward 1 Councilor), Zandile Gumede (chairperson of Health and Safety Committee – Ethekwini Municipality) and the local area chief, Inkosi Ximba attended the event and praised Assmang Manganese for their active participation and committed involvement in educating the local community in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“We source labour from the local community therefore the sustainability of our company depends on the health of this community. We are very proud that our objective to reach the young people is being realized and view this as the beginning of a strategic health partnership. For us, the fight against HIV/AIDS is not just a compliance issue, but a business imperative,” ends Padayachee.
