TMF is pleased that Skywise’s sponsorship will enable celebrities and other volunteers to paint 14 classrooms at the school, to commemorate Nelson Mandela.

For the second time TMF and Skywise are teaming up. On Wednesday, 11 February 2015, the launch date of Skywise’s commercial flights, the Class of 2014 Matric passers from the same school flew from Johannesburg to Cape Town to commemorate 25 years since the release of Nelson Mandela.  They were accompanied by more children from the Thembekile Mandela Foundation, founded by Ndileka Mandela.

The TMF is also supplying all girl learners at the school with a year’s supply of sanitary wear, in an effort to curb abseentism in rural areas and informal settlements through a programme called Pride of the Rural Girl.

Kgamane High School is one of the three schools adopted by the TMF on an on-going basis. Similar interventions have been carried out over the years by the TMF with impact being felt in communities as far spread out as Limpopo.

“TMF’s partnership with Skywise Airlines enables us to do more than normal for the disadvantaged communities. In African customs, the girl child is expected to grow into a responsible individual, however, this contrasts with the little support she gets for her upkeep,” says Ndileka Mandela, TMF founder.

Not only is the TMF rolling out various programmes for the girl child, it is also involved in awareness through publishing an annual publication. The TMF Annual Magazine is a read for corporates and those seeking to be informed about the world of the girl child through the eyes of the Thembekile Mandela Foundation.

Fundraising is consistent at TMF with the focus on sourcing funds towards needs such as sanitary pads; one of the major items difficult to access for many rural girls.

A gala dinner will be held on Saturday, 15 August at Wanderers Club, Johannesburg for the sanitary ware drive.
