In the three weeks of the competition, listeners were given a chance to win their share of R1-million in cash daily and to raise funds for PSFA.

The PSFA is a non-profit organisation dedicated to eradicating childhood hunger. The organisation was established in 1958 when the government suspended the national feeding programme. The primary goals of PSFA are to eliminate short-term hunger, improve children's learning abilities through school meals and boost school attendance.

To date, it has served over two billion meals to schoolchildren and served 170 educational institutions in its 64 years of operation. The annual May Money Madness competition creates life-changing moments for listeners and the chosen charity.

"LottoStar and Kfm 94.5's goal is to help where there is a need. We were again presented with an opportunity of extending themselves and reaching out to others to come and assist in raising more money for the Peninsula School Feeding Association," says the duo.

After the conclusion of the competition, collectively, the organisations realised that a total number of 14 736 needed to be fed for a year.

"We couldn't ignore the fact, hence the conceptualisation of the '#FeedingOurFuture' radiothon to make sure that no child is left behind. The goal was to raise R8-million but an incredible R20-million was raised in just 12 hours, with the overwhelming support of major companies and individuals across the country. What a great success story to tell," the duo adds.

Petrina, director of Peninsula School Feeding Association, says, "We are truly speechless and we cannot thank everyone enough — from the youngest of our community to the corporate donors. Every single one has blown us away with their generosity. The difference this will make in the lives of our children is life-changing."

"As we stated at the beginning of the competition, Money Madness is one of our favourite campaigns. It gives us great pleasure to assist the community. It gives us unique opportunities every year," says LottoStar's CEO Tasoulla Hadjigeorgiou.

"We were faced this year with the possibility of 14 736 school children going hungry as three weeks simply wasn't enough for us to raise funds for all these school children. Together with Kfm 94.5, we decided to put together the '#FeedingOurFuture' radiothon with the goal of raising R8-million in 12 hours on Wednesday. At the end of the radiothon, R20-million was raised," adds Hadjigeorgiou.

"This left us speechless and we would like to thank everyone who donated. We couldn't have done it without you Western Cape, thank you," concludes Hadjigeorgiou.

The duo says that in the fight against childhood hunger, there is still more to be done. Individuals who would like to help further can visit the Peninsula School Feeding Association's website
