Huawei Consumer Business Group South Africa has announced a new partnership, underscoring its commitment to innovation and excellence whilst fostering South African sporting talent. The global tech leader has joined forces with Bayanda Walaza, the youngest South African Olympic medallist and a celebrated figure in South African sport.
"Partnering with Bayanda is a proud moment for Huawei. His journey has only begun, but his legacy of excellence is already cemented and mirrors our commitment to innovation and pushing boundaries," says Peter Feng, General Manager of Huawei South Africa Consumer Business Group.
At just 18 years old, Walaza secured a Silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics as part of South Africa's 4x100 metre relay team, becoming the first South African to win an Olympic medal whilst still in high school. In the same year, he won Gold in both the 100 metre and 200 metre events at the World Athletics U20 Championships, says Huawei.
The group says that Walaza embodies the values of perseverance and excellence that define Huawei. His alignment with the brand highlights the synergy between his inspirational journey and HUAWEI's focus on empowering South Africans to embrace wellness and technology in their everyday lives.
"Huawei represents more than just technology, they stand for innovation and improving lives. This partnership reflects my personal commitment to encourage South Africans to live healthier and more fulfilling lives," says Walaza.
Aligning With South Africa's Best
This partnership underlines Huawei's commitment to supporting South Africa's brightest young stars. Whether it's through Walaza's inspirational journey or our commitment to empowering individuals, Huawei is driving innovation and excellence, creating a future where technology enables greatness, says the group.
Through partnerships of this nature, Huawei concludes that it strives to bring performance and innovation together in South Africa, inspiring millions across the nation. As Huawei continues to champion local talent and excellence, the future looks brighter and more connected than ever.
