The app is an aggregation of important news and focuses on giving users as much information as possible in a simplified manner.  It caters for Afrikaans readers who want to stay abreast of what’s happening but don’t have time for lengthy reads.

Product editor, MJ Lourens, says; “Netnuus fills the gap for a quick and consumer friendly news app in Afrikaans that will give users instant and up to date information and the opportunity to engage with the news.”

"The content for NetNuus is compiled by a team of professionals with years of experience in journalism. Its user friendly features include a simple scroll navigation feed with the latest news highlights hand-picked by the editorial team (including video), push alert notifications, the ability to comment on articles (readers can share their opinion on articles that matter to them) and the option to login with Facebook for quick, easy access.”

Lourens continues; “Not everyone is interested in lengthy analysis on the Guptas but they do want to know if they are back in South Africa. Just like there are readers who don’t want to know how far a certain Springbok rugby player ran in last week’s game but they do want to know who won. This app is perfect for these users who want their news delivered in digestible bites – quickly and accurately,” adds Lourens. “Plus it gives advertisers access to Afrikaans speaking news junkies – people who are actively interested the latest information in news, sports and business.”

NetNuus is the first product of its kind in South Africa and is 24.com’s first foray into the React Native technology.

“While developing the NetNuus application, we wanted to try out something new that we have never done before. We used Facebook’s React Native tech to build a cross-platform app for Android and iOS that is quick, seamless and a great user experience” says Michael Hancock, mobile solutions architect at 24.com.

Netnuus was launched on Tuesday, 31 May and is available for download for free from iTunes and the Google Play store.
