The Soweto Wine and Lifestyle Festival is set to showcase some of the best and emerging South African wines, foods, travel, music, artisanal merchandise, and more.
The festival is the brainchild of Mnikelo Mangciphu, owner of the Morara Wine and Spirit Emporium and Cape Wine Master, Marilyn Cooper, former CEO of the Cape Wine Academy.
Moving the festival into its new slot in the summer season introduces day-time wine and food tastings, new visual delights, VIP spaces and places, and outdoor cook-off activities. The festival was originally designed to bring Cape wines into Johannesburg’s largest township, Soweto.
The minister of tourism, Derek Hanekom, says, "This festival epitomises innovation and transcends stereotypes. It’s about great South African food, wine and travel, brought alive in Soweto. This festival has become a must-do event on the tourism calendar in Johannesburg. Come and experience the best wines the Cape has to offer, travel retailers with a huge choice of holidays and weekends away, a wide selection of gastronomies to suit all varieties and tastes from top-shelf restaurants, local bistros and food vendors, music from Soweto’s famous set, and more."
