For one night only, on Friday, 3 March the movie will premiere on a huge screen with surround sound, which will be set up outside on the top field of St Stithians College in Sandton.

The producers of Godzilla reimagine the origins of one the monster myths of all in Kong: Skull Island.

An original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer), the film tells the story of a diverse team of scientists, soldiers, and adventurers uniting to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

The film is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, and John C. Reilly. It has a 13V age restriction and the running time is 118 minutes. The film releases nationally at Ster-Kinekor’s IMAX, Cine Prestige, 3D and 2D cinemas on Friday, 10 March.

“As the country’s leading cinema chain, we are extremely excited to present the premiere of a movie the size of Kong: Skull Island as an alternative screening event. We are constantly striving to present innovative and new cinema offerings to our audiences, as an extension of our promise to deliver great moments,” says Motheo Matsau, chief of marketing and sales of Ster-Kinekor Theatres. “We believe this outdoor cinema experience will surpass our customers’ expectations, considering that we are hosting the premiere of the film at this event – a week before it hits our cinema screens.”

The event is being staged on the top field of St Stithians College in Sandton. Access to the venue is via the school’s entrance off Bram Fischer Drive, with gates opening at 17:30. The film’s screening starts at 19:30, and bookings are now open for this once-off outdoor cinema event.

The evening will be a mix of an outdoor cinema experience and a feast of artisanal foods, craft beers, and wine. Ster-Kinekor’s freshly popped popcorn and cold drinks will also be on sale to enjoy during the movie.

Seating is unreserved, on a first come, first served basis and as such, the organisers encourage ticket-holders to arrive early to find a good spot. Audiences should bring picnic blankets and low-style camping or beach chairs to enjoy the screening in comfort.
