Radio and television personality and actress Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, comedian Chris Forrest, former Mrs South Africa and Mrs World Candice Abrahams, singer Timothy Moloi, TV and radio personality Mel Bala, and Isidingo's Michaella Russell will all compete to claim the title of South Africa’s best celebrity amateur baker.
The third series, which is produced by Rapid Blue and sponsored by Huletts in association with Snowflake, premiered on Tuesday, 17 October.
BBC Lifestyle sat as the number two international channel on DStv during its transmission with the channel seeing nearly a 200% uplift in its timeslot average for viewing figures. The show has been a topic of discussion on social media with the #SABakeoff hashtag trending on Twitter in South Africa during the premiere episode’s launch.
This special episode will see six celebrity contestants bake through the three rounds – signature, technical bake, and the showstopper, all with a festive theme. All the while their efforts will be judged by a judging panel consisting of Zola Nene and Tjaart Walraven. Anne Hirsch and Lentswe Bhengu also return as presenters.
The Great South African Bake Off aims to demonstrate BBC Worldwide’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality local programming. Rapid Blue and BBC Worldwide will also be producing a second local commission with the return of Come Dine With Me South Africa for a fourth series in 2018.
The Love Productions format has been licensed to 26 countries around the world including Australia, Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Thailand, and Mexico.
