Writing is no longer the only skill that journalists need to hone. Thanks to the demand for visuals, and the decreasing prices of digital equipment, journalists have to be proficient in many different mediums. Any combination of text, photos, video, sound and graphics can be used to tell a compelling, well-rounded story.

On top of that, journalists still need some of the more traditional skills, although many of them have had to be adapted for their new platforms. Although social media platforms may be a little more informal, grammar and spelling checks are still a must for good journalism.
