"Nu Metro is proud to be a part of the global 4DX community. This accolade further substantiates the great success we’ve seen with this ground-breaking technology at our own cinemas," says Gary Craul, Nu Metro’s newly-appointed marketing and content executive.
"South Africa has embraced it with open arms – demonstrated by various 4DX hits over the past few years, as well as the record-breaking box office results for The Nun in 4DX – literally making movie fans a part of the onscreen action in cinema," he adds.
Craul says, "This Friday sees the release of The Predator in 4DX, followed by a special pre-release engagement for The House with a Clock in its Walls [exclusively in Nu Metro 4DX]."
"4DX is proof that cinemagoers are looking for fresh new, innovative, all-immersive cinema experiences, and we are pleased to give them exactly that," adds Craul.
The Innovative Technology of the Year Award is presented annually at the Big Cine Expo to honour the technical excellence of professionals in cinema exhibition industry around the globe and to applaud the innovative technologies that have successfully carved a space in this highly competitive industry.
CJ 4DPLEX, the world's first and largest 4D cinema company, and creator of 4DX, received the award. "We are honoured to be recognised for our achievements bringing innovative technology to cinemas around the world," says CJ 4DPLEX CEO Byung-Hwan Choi.
"Our success is a result of hard work by a growing team and, most importantly, our strong partnerships at the studios and within the exhibition community internationally. We look forward to continuing to work together with our friends in the industry to bring even more new innovation to the cinema experience," adds Choi.
What is 4DX?
4DX features full-length movies in live action - a cinematic experience that stimulates the senses using motion seats and special environmental effects including wind, fog, lightning, water, scents and more. The effects are synced with the action on-screen.
4DX can be found at Nu Metro V&A Waterfront (Cape Town), The Pavilion (Durban), Menlyn Park (Pretoria), Hyde Park Corner (Johannesburg), Emperors Palace (Johannesburg) and Cornubia Mall (Umhlanga/Mount Edgecombe).
