The magazine says that the call-to-action SARIE Voorbladgesig feature has aimed to give winning readers a chance to be on one of SARIE’s 12 covers a year. The feature was introduced almost a decade ago and has grown to be one of the magazine's most rewarding projects.

After nine years and more than 60 000 entries, the idea has given readers a platform to tell their stories and grace the cover of SARIE. The magazine reports that in 2019, the entry site garnered more than one million visits from entries, as well as those voting for their favourite.

Due to the success of the feature, the decision was made to expand on the cover competition.

Participants for the new feature will enter on the microsite and will also be encouraged to use '#SARIEnuwegesig' on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or TikTok as part of their entry.

This will give SARIE the opportunity to instantly connect with the personalities behind the photographs, which is a departure from the SARIE Voorbladgesig requirement that asks for only three entry photos.

"We want to get to know our young participants on the social media platforms where they live and talk daily. Judges will base their decision on a broad view of each entrant," says the team at SARIE.

The magazines has indicated that the top 10 will be announced online and the SARIE Nuwe Gesig winner featured in a unique way on the cover of SARIE’s September issue.

In 2020, the timeline for SARIE Voorbladgesig will also see change. The top 40 will be announced in SARIE's September issue and on SARIE.com, using their homemade videos as one of the criteria.

Thirty-six of the 40 semi-finalists will be chosen by the judges; four will win their spot based on the online votes they receive. The top 10 will be chosen by the judges and announced in the October issue.

A photoshoot featuring the 10 finalists will appear in the November issue. For the first time, the grand prize will be the cover of the December issue, ending 2020 and the 10th year of SARIE’s competition on a high note.

The magazine, in its 10th year, aims to spread the core message that '#JyIsGenoeg' ('#YouAreEnough').

"Our call to action is clear: You, the reader, are enough. Enough to grace the cover of South Africa's leading women's glossy," says Michélle van Breda, SARIE's editor.

Entries for SARIE Voorbladgesig and SARIE Nuwe Gesig opened on Friday, 17 April and will close Sunday, 31 May at midnight. Voting on the entry site opened on Friday, 17 April and will also close Sunday, 31 May at midnight.
