The Country Music Association is the premier trade association of the Country Music Industry and was established in 1958.
The cream of Country Music worldwide gathers in Nashville each year for an awards ceremony that is comparable to the Oscars or Grammys.
Previous CMA Award winners include:
- Johnny Cash
- Dolly Parton
- Keith Urban
- Taylor Swift
- Garth Brooks
- Alan Jackson
- Tim McGraw, and
- and soon possibly also Wimpie van der Sandt (Bok Radio).
The Country Music Association nominated Van der Sandt and Bok Radio for a CMA Award in the International Country Broadcaster category.
Van der Sandt and Bok Radio will compete against radio personalities in Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom.
It is the first time that South Africa has received this honour and follows the massive success of the Kip Moore South African tour earlier in 2023, which was the brainchild of van der Sandt and backed by Bok Radio.
Kip Moore has also been nominated for an award and will compete against Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen for the International Artist Achievement category.
Van der Sandt is currently working on a Country festival that will take place at the Cape Town Stadium, with a whole host of international Country stars in October 2024.
