Content creation is often mistaken for an easy job, however, it's actually the opposite. Generating fresh and engaging content all year round, and staying on top of trends and relevant topics can be draining.

As a content creator myself, I thought I'd help out my fellow content creators and share some ideas for the new year — all in the spirit of giving.

Read on as media update's Saads Abrahams shares some content ideas to keep you going all year round!

Seasonal Content

There is always something to celebrate or talk about, be it Valentine's Day, Mother's Day or the start of spring — and if you want your content to not only be relevant but capture attention, seasonal content is the way to go.

There are multiple types of seasonal content that you can create:

Evergreen Seasonal Content

You don't need to create new content for every single event. You can create one brilliant piece of content, optimise it and then reuse it for years to come. Let's say you are writing a blog titled "10 Christmas Marketing Tactics 2024," remove the year from the title and it will be a piece of content that can be used every Christmas period.

Calendar-Centric Content

Pull out a calendar and mark all the major holidays and events that happen throughout the year. Now cross out anything that won't be relevant to your brand. I promise that your car brand does not need a 'National Pasta Day' post.

Only highlight the events or holidays that are relevant to your brand — this will help you focus on what seasonal content will work for you and allow you to plan accordingly.

Interactive Content

Interactive content is a fun way to get people to connect with your content, especially social media content. Social media is meant for people to be sociable and interact with each other, so make sure you are creating content that garners interactions.

Polls

Polls are a great way to get your audience to interact with your brand. You can ask them what type of content they want to see, what they like about your brand and what they don't like — the possibilities are endless.

Challenges

Create challenges for your audience. For example, if you are a skincare brand, create a 30-day skincare challenge for your followers to use your products for 30 days and post their results.

Not only do you create content for this, but you get content from your followers that you can reshare as well!

Q&A Sessions

By creating Q&A sessions, you can get insights directly from your audience — this is always a good form of content to help your audience feel connected to your brand and not just like a number.

Educational and Inspirational Content

You need to add educational and inspirational content to your roster as well. As a content creator, it is important to include meaningful and valuable content in your strategy.

Some of the content you can create includes:

How-To Guides: These can be anything from short infographics to longer in-depth pieces that explain and teach certain things to your readers.

Motivational Content: Share inspiring quotes or stories to not only motivate your audience but to make them feel something when they see it.

Evergreen and Repurposed Content

The best content you'll create is content that will stand the test of time, and that can be used again and again — on multiple platforms. Trends are great and can boost your reach when they are at their peak, but trends on the Internet also die out just as quickly.

These are the key aspects of every piece of evergreen content:

  • everlasting
  • relevant
  • ability to solve a problem
  • appealing to many
  • SEO-friendly, and
  • regular updates.

Visual and Multimedia Content

You need to add various types of content to your strategy for the new year as well. This will help keep your audience informed, engaged and entertained.

Think of adding visual content such as:

  • infographics
  • videos
  • stories
  • memes, and
  • live streams.

Collaborations and Partnerships

If you are looking for content that connects with more people, it is always a good idea to consider collaborations and partnership content.

Some ways to do this are by:

  • partnering with other creators and making shared content, and
  • spotlighting community members or followers with shout-outs
