Writing articles can be a challenge, but when you are writing about something you're passionate about, it's not only easier to write but it's capturing as well. Readers can pick up when a writer writes on something they genuinely love — that is why niche magazines exist.

However, there are a few things that you need to know before you just start submitting your work.

That’s why media update's Saads Abrahams is sharing some insights on how to write for a niche magazine.

Research Your Niche Magazines

There are a plethora of niche magazines out there, so you need to pick out your niche — and then research every magazine that focuses on your topic of choice.

Choose a magazine that not only caters to your specific interests but also aligns with your personal image. You want your name to be associated with a publication that you truly admire as a writer, rather than just any publication that will accept your writing.

Tailor Your Writing

Once you've chosen the magazine you want to submit your work to, do a deep dive. Read their current articles, see what approach they take and understand what they are looking for in a writer.

To understand the target audience, find out their:

  • age range
  • gender
  • financial, and
  • socio-economic status.

This information, on top of reading articles that have already been published in the magazine, will help you tailor your writing for the publication.

Craft Your Pitch

Now it's time to craft the perfect pitch. Your pitch to the editor should tell them exactly why your article is of value to their readers and why you felt compelled to write it.

Additionally, you should add a little bit about yourself as a writer and why you're an expert at your niche — but keep it short and sweet!
