Keating is currently Assistant Editor on The World at One, PM, Broadcasting House and The World This Weekend on BBC Radio 4, says BBC.

John McAndrew, Director of Live and Daily News, says, "Rebecca has an exciting and ambitious vision for Today's future; I'm delighted to announce her as the new Editor. She will ensure that Today appeals to new audiences across all platforms while preserving the programme's unique heritage, and recognising the special place it holds in listeners' lives."

"Her confident and determined leadership will make Rebecca the ideal head of the Today team, and I know it will flourish under her editorship," adds Keating.

Mohit Bakaya, Controller of BBC Radio 4, says, "Rebecca is an outstanding journalist whose brilliance has been evident across Radio 4's news and current affairs output. She is committed to ensuring the Today programme continues to evolve and remain relevant in a fast-changing media landscape, while respecting the rigour that has made it the biggest news breakfast show in the country. I'm delighted that she will lead Today into its next chapter."

Rebecca Keating says, "When I first joined Today as an Output Editor nearly ten years ago, I could not have imagined being given the immense privilege of leading the programme. In a fractured landscape, where what is true is increasingly harder to ascertain, Today's role in holding power to account and hosting the debates shaping our society is more important than ever. I look forward to working with Amol, Anna, Emma, Justin and Nick, along with the programme's clever and incredibly diligent production team, to ensure Today thrives in the next phase of its evolution."

Keating has worked at the BBC for nearly 20 years, editing many of the corporation's most high-profile news and current affairs programmes, including Today, the News at Six and News at Ten on BBC One, and Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, adds BBC.

Keating has covered major national and international stories, including the death of Queen Elizabeth II, numerous elections, and more.

Keating began her career at the BBC as a broadcast journalist for the BBC News Channel and BBC World. She later moved into political newsgathering, covering the coalition government and Brexit, as well as presenting The Week in Parliament, says BBC.

Before joining the BBC Keating worked at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Keating will start her new role in the coming weeks, concludes BBC.
