Eden FM radio is a Western Cape radio station that is broadcast on the following frequencies: at 93.8 FM along the coast; 103.6 FM in the Karoo; and 87.8 FM in the Hessequa area. The radio station offers music; entertainment; competitions and promotions.
The station began as an initiative of four individuals from Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo who wanted to give a voice to citizens who were deprived of a voice by the then apartheid government. A section 21, non-profit company, with a board of five directors, named
Community FM (CFM) was formed and started broadcasting for the first time on 21 March 2003, on Human Rights Day. On 16 June 2006, CFM was renamed to
Eden FM. The station’s mission was to establish a truly community radio station for the Southern Cape; to reconcile and bridge the gap between citizens in a diverse society; to have programmes which inform, empower, and educate its readers; to celebrate diversity; and enhance the quality of life.
The station broadcasts to the towns of George; Oudtshoorn; Swellendam; Riversdale; Mossel Bay; Knysna; Sedgefield; Ladismith; and De Rust. The station’s listenership stands at 152 000.
