In a joint statement,
Topcar magazine and Wheels24 today announced that Angus Thompson, Deputy Editor of
Topcar, will join the Wheels24 team on a six month secondment from 1 January 2010.
Thompson will join Wheels24 as Guest Editor. The former Editor of Wheels24, Wilmer Müller, has joined the
Huisgenoot/You team to head up its internet operations.
Pierre Steyn, Editor of
Topcar said that the secondment opened up the opportunity to explore natural synergies between Wheels24, the largest motoring website in South Africa, and the magazine as well as its own new website,
www.topcar.co.za.
Topcar’s readership has grown to 622 000 per month, according to the latest AMPS research, while Wheels24 reaches 179 822 unique users per month and enjoys over 1.2-million page impressions.
Deirdre Ingpen, Publisher of Wheels24, said that they were delighted to have such a seasoned and respected motoring journalist join the team. On his appointment, Angus Thompson said he “looked forward to working with the Wheels24 Publisher, Deidre Ingpen, and her team, and feels the move holds a lot of opportunity for both brands going forward.”
Thompson will be responsible for the day-to-day editorial operations of Wheels24 during his six month secondment. Even though he remains Deputy Editor at
Topcar, Thompson’s responsibilities at the magazine will be taken over by the
Topcar team.
