Univen is a community radio station that broadcasts on the 99.8 FM frequency and was established on 5 September 1997. It is located at Thohoyandou in the Thulamela local municipality, at the University of Venda. The station has a 50-km broadcasting radius, which covers: the Vhembe and Mopani district municipality; Mutale local municipality; the Greater Giyani municipality area; and Makhado local municipality. The station broadcasts for 19 hours a day (from 05:00 to 24:00) in English; Tshivenda; Sepedi; and Xitsonga.

The station, which targets students; youth; young adults; and elders in LSM groups one to five, with its primary listenership aged between 12 and 35 years, while its secondary listenership is aged 35 and above. Univen has a 60:40 talk-music ratio and offers music genres such as Kwaito; African; Traditional; Jazz; House; R&B and Soul; Rap and Hip-Hop; reggae; Gospel; and Pop.
