Gone are the days where kitchens were deemed a woman’s domain and Sarie Kos vir mans, a first in South Africa and the latest offering from Sarie Kos, is embracing this. The annual, stand-alone food magazine will hit the shelves on 26 May.
Sarie Kos vir mans is for South African men who believe they are hot in the kitchen and master of the braai, but who acknowledge that they can do with 'a little help'. The Sarie Kos vir mans reader is an outdoorsy kind of guy and an avid sport enthusiast, but also loves to catch up with Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson.
He is quite comfortable in the supermarket shopping for his favourite ingredients and will happily open up a bottle of wine whilst cooking, but he is also keen to explore new tastes and aromas. If truth be told, nothing makes him happier than cooking for family and friends and lighting the candles for that special dinner for two.
Sarie Kos vir mans follows the same format as Sarie Kos with four clear sub-sections including: sy kos; manne-kos; huiskos; and buite-kos. Food articles; illustrated recipes; a column; and hints and innovations are also regular features.
According to Barbara Joubert, Sarie Kos Food Editor, her biggest treat is when her husband takes over in the kitchen. “This magazine proves that there hasn’t been a better time for men to apply their creativity in the kitchen and I can assure you that their loved ones will be delighted!” says Barbara.
Sarie’s Editor, Michélle van Breda, says that Sarie Kos vir mans is dedicated to Sarie’s 31% male readership who don’t have any reservations about demonstrating their skill and creativity in the kitchen. “When Sarie Kos featured recipe competitions last year, three of the five winners were men, bearing further testament to the fact that Sarie Kos vir mans was inevitable. The men have convinced us to take on this project and judging from their mouthwatering contributions, the traditional roles have been reversed! Female readers will equally enjoy this publication,” concludes van Breda.
Sarie Kos vir mans will be available nationwide from 26 May for R32.95.
